Looking for a sustainable and sporty way to get around the Aurora area? Both the BMW iX SUV and BMW i4 Gran Coupe are great selections. But, with very different body styles, choosing the right one can be daunting. Fully explore these two flagship EVs with BMW Cleveland today.
BMW i4 vs. BMW iX Range and Charging
The BMW i4 comes in four trim levels, each offering different range and charging options. For optimal range, the i4 xDrive40 is the right choice. It offers between 279 and 307 miles of range on a full charge. BMW says the i4 can replenish 100 miles of range at 10 percent battery remaining in around 4 hours of charging at home (via a Level 2 Wallbox). Restoring the same amount takes between 10 and 13 minutes on a 500A/250 kW DC charger.
The standard BMW iX xDrive50 provides Beachwood drivers with between 303 and 309 miles of range on a full charge. Like the BMW i4, the BMW iX takes around four hours to restore 100 miles of range with 10 percent battery remaining. Similarly, a DC charger can restore the same amount in just 11-12 minutes.
BMW i4 vs. BMW iX Performance
Both the BMW iX and BMW i4 offer high-performance models with rapid acceleration and special BMW M highlights. The i4 M50 generates up to 536 horsepower and can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds. The more powerful iX M60 develops 610 horsepower and can make the same sprint in a tenth of a second less. Both use powerful dual electric motors and xDrive all-wheel drive to put the power down.
BMW i4 vs. BMW iX Cargo Space and Amenities
The BMW i4 features a smart hatchback design that gives it an edge over a traditional sedan. With the rear seats up, you'll have ten cubic feet of cargo space to work with. Folding down the 40/20/40 split-folding rear seats allows you to expand that to 45.6 cubic feet, plenty of hauling bulky objects. All trim levels of the BMW i4 offer high-end amenities like ventilated seats, a heated steering wheel, Harman Kardon Surround Sound, and a SensaTec dashboard.
The BMW iX is an SUV, so it stands to reason that it hauls a bit more. It provides Hudson drivers with 77.9 cubic feet of cargo space with the 40/20/40 split-folding rear seats stowed. It also offers some features that aren't available on the BMW i4, like Glass & Wood Controls, soft-close automatic doors, and massaging seats. Overall, the BMW iX offers more space and a slightly more luxurious cabin.
BMW i4 vs. BMW iX Technology and Safety
Both the BMW iX and BMW i4 come with a curved display that comprises a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch central information display. Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ compatibility, MyBMW app integration, built-in navigation, and more all come standard.
The two are close rivals when it comes to driver assistance features, too. Both the BMW iX and BMW i4 offer Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Detection, and Frontal Collision Warning standard. Both can be fitted with the Driving Assistance Professional Package that allows partially automated driving. But only the BMW iX offers an improved Highway Assistant that offers lane changes by glancing in the mirror, as well as Augmented Reality Navigation.
